Denis defended the idea of having two PLC's doing the acquisition for the two redundant paths. In this way the reliability of the system would be improved and would be possible to do maintenance tasks in one PLC while the other keeps on working.
Pierre explained the other alternative: only one highly reliable PLC does the acquisition and provides data to the two redundant paths. Thus it would be possible to attach a unique time-stamp to alarms which would be used to identify alarms in the HCI. Maintenace and configuration tasks would be simplified since there would be only one device to take care of.
This discussed issue is related with the problem of comparing alarms from the two redundant paths in the HCI. Tono explained that if alarms don't have a unique identifier it is not possible to do "the matching" between alarms coming from one path and the other. Uwe pointed out that if the CDIN could attach a time-stamp the problem of alarm comparison would be solved and two PLC's could be used for detection. Therefore this possibility has to be investigated.
