1 Comments on the minutes of the 8th meeting

The minutes have been approved without changes.

2 Installation planning for the 33 safety zones

Roberto presented the current installation status and the installation planning. The installation of the pilot zone is the final installation (not a mock-up). This installation will be tested for two months in parallel to the existing system and will be finished by a site acceptance test (SAT). Afterwards the installation of the next zones will start and at the same time the first zone will go into operation. The installation plan has been updated, taking into account the experience gained until now and is available on the CSAM web page (http://cern.ch/st-proj-csam). The complete CSAM installation is planned to be finished in September 2005.

3 Feedback from the first installation

The first installation went fine, the network and system performance is now OK. A complete installation is available in the SCR and training is planned for the next few weeks. At the end of the 2 months testing period, the first zone should be fully operational. A demonstration can be organised for the next meeting.

4 News on revision of safety zones

A discussion with the fire-brigade showed little enthusiasm for reducing the existing safety zones. This idea was born in order to reduce the cost of the installations. One zone must be added in any case for the "Globe de la Recherche". Currently one local display is installed per safety zone and the firemen are obliged to verify the local information before going to the place of "alarm creation". With the future CSAM system, detailed information will be available directly at the fire-brigadeÕs control room and the local displays are probably not necessary and not used anymore in the same way as today. Thus the idea is to simplify the division of the safety zones. The firemen are not in favour of a change, although a simplification from the CSAM point of view gives some advantages (installation cost, maintenance, technical simplifications, etc.). The idea was voiced that the speed of intervention of the firemen could be raised if the step of verifying the local information would be suppressed. However, there was also concern on potential risks when modifying a contract in full implementation. The discussion did not end with a clear decision. Alain will clarify the advantages/disadvantages with the firemen and will report in one of the next meetings. The CSAM team needs this feedback until mid 2004 at latest.

Action: A. Chouvelon to collect pros and cons of reducing the number of safety zones to be presented in the next meeting.

5 Review of "Recommendations for the Safety Alarm System"

Basis are the user requirements and recommendations from 1998. This information was compiled into the CSAM user requirements document that is now used for the verification of the system. Nevertheless the CSAM team cross-checked with the basic documents. Following some examples of the result: In general the technical recommendations have been verified and are covered by the CSAM implementation.

6 AOB

Roberto's presentation can be found on the
Safety Alarm System Supervisory Board web page .

The distribution list shows Rudiger Voss as board member and Vincent Vuillemin as his replacement. It was decided the Vincent Vuillemin will be named board member instead of Rudiger Voss.

Next meeting: 2nd February 2004, 14:30 (104-R-A10)

As the safety alarm system supervisory board covers the complete safety alarms, it is foreseen to invite also other people like Rui Nunes (for fire and gaz detection), Gerard Cumer (for electricity issues) and Jean-Michel Jouanigot (for networking issues).

Provisional agenda:

In one of the following meetings the fire-brigade should give some feedback on CSAM operational issues and experience.
